Meet Emma Valvo, LMSW

Hi, I’m Emma. Growing up in New York State, and having worked both in Buffalo and New York City, I’ve witnessed firsthand how past experiences, identity shifts, and big transitions can leave us feeling disconnected from ourselves. Over time I discovered that healing isn’t about erasing the past, it’s about understanding it, processing it, and reconnecting with a truer version of who you are.

My Background

I hold a Master’s in Social Work from University at Buffalo and hold an LMSW licensure in New York. Over many years of training and practice I’ve focused specifically on violence against women and children, LGBTQ+ issues, complex childhood trauma, and helping folks transition into adulthood. I believe that both individual and systemic experiences shape us and therapy needs to honor both

My Approach
To Therapy

I believe therapy works best when it feels like a collaboration rather than a checklist. You don’t need to bring me a “case” you only need to bring your story, in whatever state it’s in. I draw from evidence‑based methods such as EMDR, CBT, and somatic & mindfulness‑based practices. What matters most is that we build a space where you feel safe, respected, and free to move at your own pace.

Who I Work With

I specialise in working with teens and young adults who are navigating identity, life changes, or past experiences. I’m also committed to supporting LGBTQ+ clients, and anyone whose story involves trauma or finding their footing after big transitions. In short: if you’re feeling stuck, uncertain, or simply ready for something different, I’m here.

My Mission

My mission is to provide a safe, affirming, and empowering space where teens, young adults, and individuals navigating life transitions can reconnect with themselves and move forward with confidence. Rooted in warmth and authenticity, I help clients process overwhelming emotions, build resilience, and uncover practical strategies for lasting change. Whether you're facing anxiety, relationship challenges, or just trying to make sense of life, you're not alone. I'm here to walk alongside you with compassion and real-world support, right here in New York.

You Don’t Have to Pretend Here

You don’t need a perfect story.

You don’t have to explain why it’s hard.

  • Yes! All sessions are currently held online via secure video, and I’m licensed to see clients anywhere in New York State. You can join from your phone, laptop, or wherever you feel most comfortable.

  • Your first session is all about getting to know you. There’s no pressure to share anything you’re not ready to. We’ll talk about what’s been on your mind, what you’re hoping for, and how I can support you.

  • I’m an out-of-network provider, which means I don’t take insurance directly. However, I can provide a superbill (receipt) that you may be able to submit for partial reimbursement, depending on your plan. I’m happy to walk you through how it works.

  • You can schedule an appointment directly through our booking form, or through my psychology today page. I'll do my best to work with you to find a time that suits your schedule!
