Online Therapy for Teens, Young Adults, and LGBTQ+ in New York

Life is a lot. Wanna talk about it?

Emma Valvo headshot

Hi, I’m Emma.

I’m a licensed social worker with experience in crisis response and trauma advocacy, offering online therapy for teens, young adults, and LGBTQ+ individuals across New York. My work is grounded in evidence-based care, compassion, and curiosity. Regardless if you're navigating anxiety, trauma, identity questions, or major life changes, you deserve a space that feels safe, supportive, and centered around you.

You don’t need to have it all figured out to begin. I’ll meet you exactly where you are, with warmth, honesty, and seriously, no pressure.

If you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure of what’s next, you’re definitely not alone, and you don’t have to figure it out all by yourself.

People usually come to therapy because:

They feel anxious, burnt out, or emotionally drained

They’re processing trauma or a difficult life event

They’re going through

a big transition

(like graduating, moving, changing careers, ending a relationship)

They want to better understand themselves and their relationships

They just want a place to talk things through without judgment

Is Therapy Right for Me?

Whether it’s your first time exploring therapy or you’ve been here before, I’m glad you’re considering it. Therapy can be helpful for anyone, especially in a world that asks so much of us these days. You only get one life, and you deserve to feel supported in it. Taking care of yourself isn’t selfish, it’s necessary.

What You Can Expect

My therapy style is collaborative and trauma-informed. That means we’ll go at your pace, focus on what matters most to you, and build a strong foundation of trust.

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach here. Your story, your background, and your goals shape the work we do together.

I draw from a range of evidence-based approaches, including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and somatic techniques. My background includes work in domestic and sexual violence advocacy, both in Buffalo and New York City. These experiences shaped how I show up as a therapist - with deep respect for your story, a focus on safety, and an understanding that healing takes many forms. But more than anything, I bring care, presence, and curiosity to every session.

Sessions are fully virtual, so you can join from wherever you feel most comfortable. You’ll always be in control of your experience, and you’ll never be expected to share anything before you’re ready.

I found the support I needed and am grateful for the positive changes in my life.
